New Amtrak Switcher Latest Project to Further Clean D.C. Region’s Air

At Union Station on Earth Day, Amtrak, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and the Council of Governments unveiled a repowered switcher locomotive, which will reduce diesel emissions and contribute to the regionís improving air quality. COG Board and D.C. Council Chairman Mendelson (pictured left), Metropolitan Washington Air Quality Committee Chairman and Falls Church Vice Mayor Dave Snyder joined D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, and other dignitaries at the event. The switcher project, which was managed by COG, is the latest in a series of recent initiatives to reduce diesel emissions in the region.
