(Pictured: Chief Bashoor, Chief Filer, Chief Bowers, COG Executive Director Chuck Bean)

With the changing of the seasons, the regionís residents stoke their fireplaces, dust off their space heaters, and break out extension cords and candles for use in Halloween displays. On October 29, the COG Fire Chiefs Committee, comprised of fire officials from across metropolitan Washington, held a press conference where they provided safety tips for avoiding fire disasters this fall and year-round.

The event was opened by the COG Fire Chiefs Committee Chairman and Prince Georgeís County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor. He was joined by DC Fire and EMS Chief Gregory Dean, Charles County Department of Emergency Services Chief John Filer, Fairfax County Fire Chief Richard Bowers, and Loudoun County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Linda Hale

In addition to addressing recent fire incidents in Fairfax and Charles Counties, the fire officials reminded the regionís residents to test and change batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in tandem with changing clocks for the end of Daylight Saving Time, and develop a plan for exiting the home in the case of an emergency.
