DC, Maryland and Virginia Election Officials Launch Voter Registration Week

In recognition of National Voter Registration Day, area election officials working with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments are kicking off a week-long effort today to inform voters about how to register to vote and confirm the accuracy of their voter registration.

Every day from Tuesday, September 25, to Tuesday, October 2, area election officials and volunteers will conduct voter registration drives at public libraries, community centers, government agency offices, and public events.

Events during this regional Voter Registration Week will include:

They will be joined in this event by other local agencies including the D.C. Office of Asian Pacific Affairs, the D.C. Office of Latino Affairs, the Office of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions and the National Association of Secretaries of State.
  • On September 25, the DC Board of Elections will sponsor voter registration drives from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Office of Aging, the Department of Human Services' H Street Service Center and Anacostia Service Center, at the Department of Motor Vehicles' Southwest location, and at the Reeves Municipal Building.

  • On October 2, election officials and volunteers from throughout the region will distribute fliers near Metro and MARC stations in suburban Maryland and Northern Virginia advertising a new website where residents of the entire Washington area can find information on how to register to vote, vote early, or request an absentee ballot. That website is www.MetroDCVote.org.

If you have moved since the last time you voted, you must update your address to cast a ballot this November. Not sure if your registration is up to date? Visit MetroDCVote.org. Using the links on that website, you can check your information online and find out whether you need to update your voter record. You can also find other voting information, such as where and when you cast your ballot, and what questions will be on your ballot, at the new website.
