|TPB Advances Projects Proposed for Region’s Long-Range Transportation Plan - Final vote on plan update to take place in the fall
Washington, D.C. – At its meeting today, the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) voted to include ten projects in an air quality analysis required as part of the annual update to the financially Constrained Long Range Transportation Plan (CLRP).
Today’s vote was the final opportunity for projects to be included in this year’s update of the CLRP. Following the completion of the air quality analysis, the TPB will vote on the 2014 CLRP update in the fall.
The additions and changes approved to be included in the analysis include streetcar extension projects in the District of Columbia that would connect the length of the H Street Corridor from Georgetown to Northeast DC and the Southwest Waterfront to Anacostia. Virginia proposed highway widening and increased commuter rail capacity in Virginia.
Maryland submitted a full highway interchange on the Capital Beltway at the Greenbelt Metro Station, improving access to Metro and MARC commuter rail facilities alike. This project was removed from the CLRP four years ago, but, due to recent funding improvements, has been submitted again for inclusion in the 2014 CLRP.
The CLRP identifies all regionally significant transportation projects and programs that are planned in the region between 2014 and 2040. The plan includes more than 750 projects ranging from simple highway landscaping to billion-dollar highway and transit projects. Some of the projects will be completed in the near future, while others are only in the initial planning stage.
The projects and programs that go into the CLRP are developed cooperatively by governmental bodies and agencies represented on the TPB.
