|Council of Governments Endorses Washington 2024 Olympic Bid
WASHINGTON, D.C. –The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) endorsed Washington 2024’s efforts to bring the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic games to the National Capital Region.
In a resolution, the COG Board said it believes “the 2024 games will highlight the National Capital Region’s extraordinary attributes and support COG’s ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of life for the region’s jurisdictions and residents.”
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to promote our nation’s capital—and the region as a whole—to the rest of the world,” said COG Executive Director Chuck Bean after the Board voted in support of the resolution.
In September, Washington 2024 Chairman & CEO Russ Ramsey and Vice-Chair and Washington area sports team owner Ted Leonsis briefed the COG Board on their planning efforts.
The COG Board is comprised of local and state elected officials from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia, representing 22 local governments.
