In January 2005, COG in conjunction with Kaiser Permanente and the Consumer Health Foundation sponsored the Summit on Healthy Eating and Active Living. The purpose of this event was to bring together regional health and education professionals, policymakers, and community based agencies to examine where we are in addressing the growing problem of childhood obesity in the Washington metropolitan region. This issue brief gives an overview of the extent of obesity and overweight in our region.
